Mobile World Congress 2016

We had an exciting cloud presence this year at MWC showcasing SDN, NFV, Big data and OpenStack demos tailored for Telcos and Service Providers, covered in a series of daily recaps (Part 1, 2, 3, 4). We unveiled, the first VNF Performance Interoperability Lab (V-PIL). V-PIL will provide independent performance testing, interoperability and validation of virtualized network functions (VNFs) in a multi-vendor environment for customer evaluations. Find out more here. We also announced that Canonical is one of the eight founding members of Open Source Mano (OSM). A total of 23 Service Providers and Solution Vendors will work together to focus on delivering an open source Management and Orchestration (MANO) stack aligned with ETSI NFV Information Models.

Partner highlights

Lisa Pike spoke about Ubuntu and the OpenPOWER ecosystem at IBM Interconnect 2016, where Canonical was showcasing Ubuntu OpenStack, Juju and MAAS. Here’s Mark Shuttleworth talking about cognitive computing on Ubuntu and IBM Power Systems. Along with partners PLUMgrid and Awnix, we demoed a well received joint solution of Ubuntu OpenStack with integrated PLUMgrid SDN at the WEST Conference in San Diego.

Upcoming events

We are already getting ready for OpenStack Summit Austin. It’s 2 months away (we know) but we’re already planning our latest demos, organising competitions, preparing presentations and much more! We will be at booth A20, and at the Container Bar during the Community Party.
